Family Claims Excessive Surgical Intervention Led to Death
Anantnag: A woman from Poshwara, Anantnag, died hours after undergoing two back-to-back surgeries at MCCH Anantnag, prompting allegations of medical negligence from her family and local residents. According to relatives, she was first operated on Saturday and later informed that her uterus had to be removed to stop internal bleeding.

Patient Shifted to ICU, Dies Overnight
Following the second surgery, the woman was shifted to the ICU at GMC Anantnag for critical care. However, she tragically passed away between Sunday and Monday at around 2:30 am. Her sudden deterioration and death left the family in shock.

Locals Demand Accountability and Justice
Residents of Poshwara joined the family in alleging medical negligence. They claimed that internal bleeding was a direct result of improper medical handling, calling the situation unacceptable for a district-level hospital. They demanded justice for the deceased’s two children—one newborn and another around three years old.

Family Accuses Hospital of Gross Negligence
The grief-stricken family said performing two major surgeries within hours constituted severe negligence. They demanded strict action against those responsible, stating that the incident highlights systemic issues in maternal care at the facility.

Hospital Superintendent Confirms Postpartum Haemorrhage
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Mushtaq Ahmad, Medical Superintendent of MCCH, said the woman, Khushboo, underwent surgery around 3 pm on Saturday and was later moved to the ward. When her condition worsened, she was taken back to the theatre due to Postpartum Haemorrhage, leading doctors to remove her uterus to control the bleeding.

Committee Formed for Initial Enquiry
Ahmad stated that the patient was placed under intensive care following the second surgery but did not survive. He added that a preliminary enquiry committee has been constituted and will submit a report within seven days. “If any culprit is found, he will be brought to justice,” he said.

Government Orders High-Level Probe
In response to the incident, the government has ordered a detailed investigation. Professor Dr. Iffat Hassan Shah, Principal of Government Medical College, Srinagar, has been appointed as the Inquiry Officer to examine the sequence of medical events.

Inquiry Report Expected Within Two Weeks
Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad will assist in the probe, and the final report—along with recommendations—is expected to be submitted within 14 days. Authorities say the findings will determine further action in the case, as public outcry continues to build.
