Raipur: A woman and her twin babies tragically died on Monday due to what her husband claims was a lack of oxygen while they were being transferred from a healthcare center to a hospital 38 kilometers away in Korba district. The woman, Kanti Rathiya, 36, a worker at the Jogipali village Aanganwadi in Kartala, had delivered twins prematurely. Her husband, Bihari Lal, alleges that an ill-equipped ambulance without oxygen facilities caused the deaths. However, health officials have denied the allegations, stating that the exact cause of death has not yet been determined.

According to Dr. SN Kesari, the Chief Medical and Health Officer, Kanti Rathiya and her newborn twins required special care and monitoring after the premature delivery at seven months. They were initially taken to the Kartala healthcare center before being referred to the Medical College Hospital in Korba. During the ambulance journey, their condition worsened, and they died en route.

Bihari Lal, the woman’s husband, stated that his wife and babies were in stable condition until being placed in the ambulance, but their health deteriorated rapidly as the ambulance lacked oxygen supply. He has called for a thorough investigation and accountability for what he believes was medical negligence. Police have launched an initial investigation into the case, and a formal complaint will be filed once the inquiry is complete.
