Pune : Pune’s Wakad police have registered a case against Dr. Abhinav Khare for allegedly defrauding a senior citizen of ₹1.37 crore by falsely promising a 50% partnership in a hospital. The accused allegedly took the money in multiple installments but failed to honor his commitment. He later shut down the hospital and sold its medical equipment without reimbursing the complainant.

The victim, a 68-year-old retired Balewadi resident, approached the police after realizing he had been deceived. The fraudulent activities reportedly occurred between June 18, 2021, and December 18, 2024. Dr. Khare, who had been treating the complainant for asthma, allegedly gained his trust and learned about his financial background, including his pension savings.

Luring the victim with promises of lucrative returns, the doctor convinced him and his wife to invest ₹1.37 crore in Spandan Multi-Speciality Hospital at Bhoir Plaza, Dange Chowk, Thergaon. However, instead of fulfilling his promise, Dr. Khare shut down the hospital and liquidated its assets, leaving the complainant at a significant financial loss.

Following the complaint, the Wakad police have booked Dr. Khare under relevant sections related to cheating and financial fraud. Assistant Police Inspector Pawar is leading the investigation.
