Police book government hospital doctor under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after call records reveal frequent conversations with deceased anaesthesiology postgraduate
Vijayawada: Police in Vijayawada have arrested a doctor in connection with the alleged suicide of a postgraduate medical student pursuing Anaesthesiology at Government General Hospital Vijayawada.
The incident occurred on February 5 when the student reportedly collapsed in her room within the hospital premises after allegedly administering an injection. Following the incident, her parents filed a complaint, prompting police to begin an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Police Arrest Government Hospital Doctor
According to investigators, a doctor working at Nandigama Government Hospital has been arrested on charges of abetment to suicide.
Police officials said the arrest was made after analysing the call records of the deceased student during the course of the investigation.
Call Records Reveal Conversation Before Incident
During the probe, officers found that the student had spoken to the accused doctor for around nine minutes at about 12:30 a.m. on February 4, just hours before the incident.
“The mobile call data revealed that she had spoken with him several times,” a police officer said, referring to the investigation findings.
Case Registered Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
Central Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police K. Damodar confirmed that the accused doctor has been booked under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with abetment to commit suicide.
“With the doctor refusing to marry her, the student resorted to the extreme step. The accused was arrested,” the ACP said.
Student Found Dead Inside Hospital Premises
The deceased student, who was pursuing postgraduate training in Anaesthesiology at the hospital, was found unconscious in her room inside the campus. She was later declared dead.
Authorities launched an investigation after her parents approached the police with a complaint regarding the circumstances of her death.
Earlier Incident Involving Student Death in Vijayawada
In a separate earlier incident reported in the city, an MBBS student from a private college in Vijayawada was found dead under suspicious circumstances in her hostel room. The student was a resident of East Godavari district.
The incident came to light after fellow students noticed her absence and alerted authorities. Officials later entered her room and found her dead, following which the police were informed.
Police said further investigation into the latest case is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the postgraduate student’s death.
