End of an Era in Kerala’s Ayurveda Community

Thiruvananthapuram: Dr C.A. Raman, a renowned Ayurveda physician and former Director of Ayurveda in Kerala, passed away on Friday at the age of 94 at a private hospital. He succumbed to age-related ailments, marking the end of a distinguished chapter in the state’s traditional medicine landscape.

Decades-Long Career in Ayurveda

Dr Raman enjoyed an illustrious career that spanned several decades. After retiring as Director of Ayurveda, he continued serving the field with equal dedication, especially through his work in the Ayurveda tourism sector.

Long Association With Somatheeram

Since 1995, he had been the chief physician at Somatheeram Ayurvedic Hospital and Yoga Centre, where he played a pivotal role in promoting natural healing and holistic living. Over the years, he helped transform the lives of thousands, becoming an integral part of the Somatheeram family.

Special Recognition by Kerala Government

In recognition of his deep knowledge of traditional healing systems, the Kerala government appointed him as the special officer for Folk Medical Therapy—an honour reserved for leading experts in indigenous medicine.

Physician to Eminent Personalities

Throughout his career, Dr Raman treated prominent figures including former Chief Minister K. Karunakaran, ministers, members of the Travancore royal family, and several well-known personalities from political and cultural circles. He earned numerous national and international awards for his contributions.

Public Homage and Funeral Arrangements

Public homage to Dr Raman will be held on Saturday from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM at Somatheeram Ayurvedic Hospital and Yoga Centre.
The funeral is scheduled for Sunday at 12 PM at Santhi Kavadam, Thiruvananthapuram.

Family Details

His wife C.K. Lalitha had predeceased him. He is survived by his children — M.R. Beenarani and R. Subhash (KSRTC). His son M.R. Santhosh Kumar had passed away earlier. Children-in-law include Prameela Santhosh, P. Sasidharan, and P.T. Omana, according to TNIE.
