Dehradun: In a major step toward patient-centric healthcare infrastructure, the Uttarakhand government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Government Doon Medical College, Government Medical College Haldwani, and Sevadan Arogya Sanstha to construct rest houses for the families of patients admitted at these institutions.

The agreement was formalised at the Uttarakhand Secretariat in the presence of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who called it a part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare facilities across the state.

🏥 About the Rest Houses

  • Two rest houses with 350-bed capacity each will be constructed—one at each medical college.
  • The aim is to ensure affordable and safe accommodation for patient attendants who often struggle with overnight stays during hospital admissions.

💰 Affordable Tariff Structure

  • Dormitory beds: ₹55 per night
  • Double-bedded rooms: ₹300 per night
  • Breakfast: ₹20 per person
  • Lunch: ₹35 per person

📍 Land Allocation

  • Doon Medical College: 1,750 sq. metres earmarked
  • Haldwani Medical College: 1,400 sq. metres designated

CM Dhami also requested Sevadan Arogya Sanstha to explore establishing a similar facility at AIIMS Satellite Centre in Kichha, reflecting a larger state-wide vision for compassionate medical care.

🗣️ Chief Minister’s Vision

Speaking at the event, CM Dhami reiterated the government’s commitment to:

  • Build a medical college in every district
  • Expand Jan Aushadhi Kendras to make low-cost generic medicines widely available
  • Ensure that support systems for patients and families are part of every healthcare facility

Earlier, during the AIIMS Rishikesh convocation, the CM emphasized these healthcare reforms as part of India’s broader transformation in the last decade.
