Agra: Agra witnessed a massive protest by over 2,000 doctors after the arrest of a senior urologist following a road rage incident involving the wife of a police inspector. The confrontation escalated when the doctor’s car collided with the vehicle carrying the officer’s wife, leading to an altercation and his subsequent detention.
Doctors gathered at the Indian Medical Association (IMA) building for a three-hour-long meeting, condemning the police action as misconduct. Despite an official apology from the police during the meeting, the issue remained unresolved. The situation further intensified with the arrival of ACP Hari Parvat Aditya Kumar, but discussions between doctors and police failed to reach a resolution. In response, the IMA issued a 24-hour ultimatum, warning that the strike would continue indefinitely unless action was taken against the officers involved.
According to reports from News18, the incident occurred on Thursday morning when Dr. Avinash Singh, a senior urologist, was on his way to the hospital. His car was involved in a minor accident at Kargil Tiraha (Sikandra). The situation escalated into a heated argument, with the driver of the other vehicle allegedly using abusive language. The other vehicle was occupied by the wife of Inspector Kaushal, a former in-charge of Sikandra police station.
Dr. Avinash claimed that the woman, a teacher by profession, began recording the incident. Shortly afterward, Sikandra police allegedly detained him without proper documentation and subjected him to physical abuse. Both parties have since filed formal complaints.
Outraged by the incident, doctors held a meeting at IMA Bhawan on Friday, deciding to continue the strike until action was taken against the responsible officers. The doctors rejected the police’s apology, demanding justice. ACP Aditya Kumar assured an investigation within 24 hours.
IMA Secretary Rajneesh Kumar alleged that the doctor’s arrest was influenced by the woman’s connections, accusing the police of acting at the behest of her husband, a former police in-charge. The IMA JDN UP shared a video statement from Dr. Avinash on X (formerly Twitter), condemning the unjust treatment of a senior doctor.
In the video, Dr. Avinash described the sequence of events, stating that the accident was a minor reaction-time issue. After stopping his car nearby, he was followed by the other party, and soon after, police stopped his vehicle at Sikandra crossing. He alleged that officers verbally abused him, recorded videos, and even slapped him before taking him into custody without any formal charges.
“This is a clear case of power misuse,” Dr. Avinash stated in his video. “For a simple road rage incident, where complaints could have been filed through proper legal channels, I was arrested without evidence. If a police officer’s wife can misuse her influence like this, what hope do ordinary citizens have?”
The strike continues as doctors demand strict action against those responsible.
