Agartala, June 8 — In a significant step toward enhancing healthcare infrastructure, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday announced the establishment of a Tertiary Eye Hospital in Agartala. The state government has earmarked ₹5 crore in the budget for this project, which will be developed near the ILS Hospital, and is set to be a 100-bed modern facility.

While speaking at an event held at Tufania Lunga Tea Garden in Bamutia, Dr. Saha reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensuring that people don’t need to travel outside Tripura for advanced medical care. He also emphasized the collaboration with AIIMS Delhi, whose visiting team has been inspecting state medical facilities including AGMC and GBP Hospital.

“We are working to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat, ensuring last-mile delivery of welfare and development,” he stated.

Focus on Tea Workers’ Welfare

The Chief Minister also spotlighted the ‘Mukhyamantri Cha Shramik Kalyan Yojana’, a welfare scheme launched in 2022 for tea garden workers. Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the scheme on March 8, 2022.

The state has started allocating abandoned tea gardens to tea workers through cooperatives or on lease, giving them greater control over land and livelihood. So far, 241 land pattas have been distributed in the Mohanpur sub-division alone — including 114 in Kalacherra, 35 in Durgabari, and 92 in Mohanpur. On Sunday, 82 more pattas were handed over to beneficiaries.

Transparency and Multi-Sectoral Development

Dr. Saha affirmed that the state government is committed to transparent governance and equitable progress across all sectors. He also inaugurated several public welfare initiatives at the administrative camp in Tufania Lunga Tea Garden, including:

  • Anti-drug awareness drives
  • Blood donation and health camps
  • Legal assistance services
  • Distribution of agricultural equipment
  • Tree plantation campaigns

Notable dignitaries present included Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Biswajit Shil, Tripura Tea Development Corporation Chairman Samir Ranjan Ghosh, and former MLA Krishnadhan Das.

During his visit, the CM also met Payari Tanti, a tea worker and PMAY-G beneficiary, listening to her transformative journey under the central housing scheme.
