FIR Filed Against Private Hospital Staff Following Consumer Commission Ruling

Thane: In a significant development, the Naupada Police have registered an FIR against a doctor and staff of a private hospital in Thane in connection with the death of a 51-year-old woman in an alleged medical negligence case dating back to 2017.

According to the FIR, the woman was admitted to a hospital near Teen Hath Naka on April 16, 2017, after complaining of chest pain, dizziness, and excessive sweating. However, the attending doctor was reportedly absent, and no immediate medical examination was conducted.

Allegations of No Proper Diagnosis and Treatment

The complaint states that despite assurances, essential diagnostic procedures such as ECG were not carried out throughout the day. The patient was allegedly treated on an outpatient basis and given injections by nursing staff without proper medical evaluation.

Her condition reportedly worsened later in the evening after an injection was administered. She collapsed soon after and was declared dead.

Case Revived After Consumer Commission Intervention

The case remained largely inactive until 2019, when the complainant approached the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission seeking justice.

In September 2025, the commission ruled in favor of the complainant. Following this, an inquiry by the district civil surgeon confirmed lapses in treatment and failure to provide appropriate medical care.

FIR Registered After Medical Inquiry Findings

Based on the findings of the inquiry, the police registered an FIR on March 14, 2026. Authorities have now launched a detailed investigation into the alleged negligence and the role of the hospital staff involved.

Earlier Similar Action in Thane

In a related development, the Thane Municipal Corporation had earlier issued a closure notice to a hospital run by a gynaecologist after he was found guilty of medical negligence in the death of a 35-year-old woman in 2022. The civic body had ordered immediate suspension of operations and transfer of patients to other hospitals.

The latest case has once again raised serious concerns about patient safety, accountability, and medical standards in private healthcare facilities in Thane.
