Infant Trafficking Shock in Telangana: Nurse, Mediator and Couple Held

In a shocking case of alleged infant trafficking in Telangana, a nurse working at a private hospital in Medak district has been arrested for reportedly selling a newborn baby girl for Rs 1.5 lakh after falsely informing the mother that the child had died shortly after delivery.

According to reports, the incident involved a woman from Lakshminagar Thanda in Papannapet mandal, who was seven months pregnant at the time of the incident. She was reportedly travelling towards Moula Ali in Secunderabad to visit her in-laws when she was allegedly attacked by monkeys after they noticed a packet of chips in her hand.

During the incident, the woman reportedly fell and suffered severe bleeding. A friend accompanying her immediately shifted her to a nearby hospital, where doctors conducted emergency surgery and delivered a baby girl.

Nurse Allegedly Told Family That Newborn Had Died

The case took a disturbing turn when a hospital nurse allegedly informed the family that the newborn baby had died shortly after birth.

Believing the claim, the family completed the discharge process, and the mother returned to Medak after spending three days in the hospital.

However, the matter resurfaced after an unidentified person allegedly informed the mother that her baby was alive. Shocked by the revelation, the woman approached the police and filed a complaint on May 3.

Police Rescue Newborn Baby Girl

Based on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to kidnapping and trafficking of a minor, along with provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.

During the investigation, police reportedly discovered that the nurse had handed over the infant to an intermediary, who later sold the baby girl to a couple from Siddipet for Rs 1.5 lakh.

Authorities arrested the nurse, the intermediary, and the couple accused of purchasing the child. All the accused are currently in police custody.

Police also confirmed that the newborn baby girl was safely rescued.

Investigation Underway Into Possible Trafficking Network

Officials are now investigating whether more individuals were involved in the alleged infant trafficking network operating in the region.

The incident has sparked outrage and raised serious concerns regarding patient safety, ethical practices in private healthcare facilities, and illegal child trafficking activities in Telangana.

Authorities said further investigation is underway.
