Crackdown reveals rampant quackery; cases filed, helpline launched for public complaints

Hyderabad:
In a significant move against unauthorised medical practices, the Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) conducted surprise inspections on Tuesday in Shabad, a town on the outskirts of Hyderabad, and unearthed 12 illegal medical establishments operated by individuals without any recognised medical qualifications.

Led by TGMC Chairman Dr. K. Mahesh Kumar and Vice-Chairman Dr. G. Srinivas, the inspection team found that most of these so-called clinics were small, single-room setups lacking valid licenses and qualified medical staff. Many were allegedly prescribing steroids, painkillers, and antibiotics — often without proper diagnosis — endangering the lives of unsuspecting patients.

Cases Filed Under Medical and Penal Laws

“We will be filing cases against six individuals at local police stations under NMC Act Sections 34 and 54, TSMPR Act Section 22, and BNS Sections 318 and 319,” Dr. Srinivas told Telangana Today. These provisions deal with impersonation of medical professionals and unauthorised medical practice.

Among the shuttered clinics were:

  • Om Sai First Aid Centre (Lingachari)
  • Mustafa Clinic (Mustafa)
  • Master Clinic (Venkatesh)
  • Sri Sai Clinic (Anjayya)
  • Shravan First Aid Centre (Balraj)
  • ZamZam Clinic (Md Ghouse Amzad)

All the above facilities were closed down immediately by the local district health authorities.

Public Warned, Helpline Activated

TGMC has issued a strong public advisory against seeking treatment from unregistered individuals and warned of serious health consequences, including life-threatening complications from the misuse of drugs like steroids.

A dedicated WhatsApp helpline (9154382727) has been launched for citizens to report such unauthorised medical practitioners.

“This is part of our ongoing statewide crackdown on fake clinics and quackery. We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious medical activity,” the council said.

Repeat Offenders and Broader Campaign

This action follows an earlier operation where seven illegal clinics were shut down in Hayatabad village of Shabad mandal in Rangareddy district, as previously reported by Medical Dialogues. Many of those centres were found to be run by former hospital staff or compounders impersonating doctors.

TGMC continues its relentless drive to protect public health and uphold professional medical standards across Telangana.
