Raids Expose Widespread Quackery
Hyderabad: In a major crackdown on illegal medical practice, the Telangana State Medical Council (TGMC) caught 18 quacks practising allopathy in a single day during raids conducted across Kamareddy and Nizamabad districts.
These unregistered practitioners, lacking medical degrees or registration, were found prescribing medicines, administering antibiotics, steroids, and pain-relieving injections—posing a serious risk to public health.
Surprise Inspections in Clinics and Nursing Homes
The raids were carried out by TGMC officials, including Executive Committee member Dr Sunny Davis and co-opted member Dr Shirish Kumar, at small nursing homes, one-room clinics, and first-aid centres.
The accused include:
- Mosra village: Polam Rajender, Gundla Shankar
- Chandur village: K Srinivas Rao
- Varni: Mahender Goud, Bheem Rao, Ahmed
- Nasrullabad village: S Ravinder, Rama Rao, Mogulaiah
- Birkur village: Mahesh Yadav, Balakrishna
- Jukkal: Annam Venkatesh, Sudhakar, Shivaji, Jadhav Balaji, V Satyanarayana
- Pitlam village: Kongari Raghu, Besta Pandari
Legal Action Underway
The council confirmed that FIRs will be registered under the National Medical Commission Act and the Telangana Medical Practitioners Registration Act. A detailed report is being prepared for submission to the authorities.
Growing Menace of Quackery
Earlier, TGMC uncovered similar illegal practices in Station Ghanpur, Jangaon district, where four clinics were found running without qualified professionals. On learning about the raids, five unlicensed practitioners fled, abandoning their clinics.
One particularly serious case involved a BHMS-qualified homoeopath, who was illegally operating under the name of a retired Army officer while prescribing antipsychotic drugs and antibiotics.
