➡ Unqualified Individuals Running Hospitals, Administering Surgeries & Antibiotics
Hyderabad: In a major crackdown on illegal medical practice, the Telangana Medical Council (TMC) has unearthed several cases of quackery in Devarakonda and Mall town of Nalgonda district, exposing unqualified individuals operating unauthorized healthcare setups, including hospitals and clinics.
During a series of surprise inspections, the TMC discovered optometrist R. Ramesh illegally operating Akshara Hospital in Devarakonda, where he was allegedly conducting eye surgeries and prescribing powerful antibiotics to unsuspecting patients—despite having no recognized medical degree beyond optometry.
In another alarming case, a man also named Ramesh was found running Padmavathi Hospital, falsely claiming to hold MBBS and MD (General Medicine) degrees. However, when questioned by TMC officials, he failed to produce any educational certificates, despite asserting that he studied MBBS in Russia.
➡ TMC Vice Chairman Speaks Out
“There is no law that defines or permits ‘limited scope allopathic treatment’ or ‘First Aid Centers’ without proper medical qualification and license,” said Dr. Gundagani Srinivas, Vice Chairman of the TMC. “These individuals were found administering high doses of antibiotics, steroids, and injections to patients irrespective of the actual medical condition.”
➡ More Imposters Caught in Mall Town
Four other individuals have also been caught running illegal clinics:
- Rajeshwar Rao – Operated Rajeshwar Rao Clinic without medical credentials
- Jahangir – Claimed to be a physiotherapist using a fake BPT degree, while also prescribing allopathic drugs
- Padmavathi – Ran Srinivas Poly Clinic, despite lacking a valid qualification
- Santosh – Managed Maharshi Clinic, using the prescription pad of a licensed MBBS doctor (Dr. Venkat Reddy)
➡ Legal Action Underway
All individuals are being booked under Sections 34 and 54 of the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act, which carry a penalty of up to one year imprisonment and fines up to ₹5 lakh for illegal medical practice.
