Mumbai: The Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), widely known as Tata Hospital, has been designated as the ‘Anchor Centre’ for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’s ‘Rays of Hope’ (RoH) initiative. The initiative aims to enhance cancer care in developing countries, particularly through radiotherapy and medical imaging.
Key Highlights of the Recognition:
- TMC will train medical fellows, organize training courses for healthcare providers, and mentor other radiotherapy and medical imaging centres in Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs).
- TMC will participate in IAEA-coordinated research projects, fostering innovation in cancer treatment.
- IAEA to support LMICs with equipment, training, research, and innovation through TMC and other Regional Anchor Centres.
IAEA’s Vision:
At the MoU signing event, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi emphasized the need for equitable cancer care worldwide, stating:
“Cancer mortality rates are not decreasing as they should despite scientific advancements. The ‘Rays of Hope’ initiative aims to make radiotherapy accessible globally in an economical and scientific way.”
TMC’s recognition as an Anchor Centre reinforces its global leadership in cancer care, paving the way for high-impact interventions in LMICs.
