Government Expands Healthcare Services with 208 New Urban Wellness Centres

Chennai: The Public Health Department of Tamil Nadu has invited applications for the recruitment of doctors, nurses, and 832 medical staff members for newly planned Urban Health and Wellness Centres (UHWCs) across the state, including Chennai.

This initiative aligns with Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s healthcare expansion plan, which previously saw the inauguration of 500 UHWCs in June 2023. These centres function as satellite units of Urban Primary Health Centres and operate under various civic bodies, including the Greater Chennai Corporation and municipalities.

Recruitment Details & Salary Structure

According to Dr. T.S. Selvavinayagam, Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, the positions offer the following contract-based salaries:
Doctors – ₹60,000 per month
Nurses – ₹18,000 per month

The new 208 UHWCs will function in two shifts:
🕗 8 AM – 12 PM
🕓 4 PM – 8 PM
Additionally, teleconsultation services will be available for remote patient care.

Results Announcement: April 2, 2025

The District Health Association will oversee the contractual appointments of 208 doctors, nurses, and 832 medical staff members.

This expansion aims to enhance urban healthcare accessibility, ensuring better medical coverage for Tamil Nadu’s growing population.
