Police, Bomb Squad Rush to Spot After Timer-Fitted Device Discovered Near Hospital

Panic spread across Pune’s Hadapsar area on Wednesday night after a suspicious bomb-like object fitted with a timer and electronic circuit was discovered outside a hospital located at Kamdhenu Estate, triggering a major security response by the police and bomb disposal teams.

According to reports, the suspicious white-coloured object was found inside a cardboard box in the hospital parking area around 8:15 pm. A passerby noticed the unattended package and immediately informed the police control room.

Area Cordoned Off, Nearby Locations Evacuated

Following the alert, police teams rushed to the spot and quickly cordoned off the surrounding area as a precautionary measure. Authorities also evacuated nearby locations to ensure public safety amid fears that the object could contain explosives.

Personnel from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) were immediately deployed to examine the suspicious package. After a detailed inspection, the BDDS team safely secured the object and transported it to the open grounds of the Hadapsar Gliding Centre for disposal and further forensic examination.

Senior Police Officials Monitor Situation

Senior police officials, including additional commissioner of police Manoj Patil and deputy commissioner of police Vivek Masal, reached the location to supervise the operation and review security arrangements.

Speaking to the media, DCP Vivek Masal stated that the BDDS team would conduct a detailed analysis of the object and its contents to determine whether it posed any actual threat.

Investigation Underway to Trace Culprit

Police have launched an investigation to identify who placed the suspicious object in the hospital parking area and ascertain the motive behind the act. Security in the locality was tightened, and precautionary checks were carried out in surrounding areas following the incident.

Authorities are also examining CCTV footage from nearby establishments and questioning local individuals as part of the ongoing probe.

Incident Comes Amid Rising Threats Targeting Hospitals

The incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety of hospitals and healthcare facilities amid recent threat-related cases across the country.

Earlier, panic had erupted at Sawai Man Singh Hospital after the hospital allegedly received a bomb threat demanding Rs 40 crore. The caller had reportedly warned of blowing up the hospital premises if the ransom amount was not paid.

The latest incident in Pune has once again highlighted growing security concerns surrounding major healthcare institutions and the need for heightened vigilance around public places.
