Varanasi : In a shocking case of botched-up surgery a UP doctor performed hysterectomy instead of cholecystectomy leaving the 26-year-old patient without uterus. The patient ordeal started during the first covid lockdown in May 2020 when she was troubled by a sharp pain in her abdomen. The accused doctor performed diagnostic tests in his private nursing home and diagnosed the cause of the pain as gall bladder stone. The doctor performed a gall bladder removal surgery and the patient was relieved of the pain. However in 2023 the pain reoccurred and the patient approached another doctor and a thorough examination was done it was revealed that her gall bladder still had stone while her uterus was missing.

The patient aggrieved by knowing the fact that her uterus has been removed confronted the accused doctor but rather than being apologetic the doctor threatened the patient of dire consequences which aggravated the situation. The patient approached the local court which directed the police to take action against the accused doctor. The accused doctor is now facing charges under sections 336, 337, 338 (related to causing grievous hurt by acts endangering life or personal safety of others), and 504 (related to intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Indian Penal Code, among others. Dr. Sandeep Chaudhary, the Chief Medical Officer, assured that a panel of doctors would conduct an investigation once the police initiate an inquiry into the matter.
