NEW DELHI — In a major move to accelerate regulatory reforms and upgrade standard benchmarks across India’s medical education framework, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has officially constituted a high-powered National Experts Panel headed by the renowned medical educationist, Dr Vedprakash Mishra. According to an official gazette notification issued by the apex medical regulator, this newly formed steering committee is tasked with reviewing, refining, and implementing strategic academic policies to align India’s medical training systems with modern global requirements.
A Distinguished Leader for Academic Reforms
Dr Vedprakash Mishra brings over three decades of distinguished academic experience to this crucial assignment, having served as Chief Advisor at Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Education and Research and Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences. Previously serving as Honorary Advisor to the IMA and Chairman of the Standing Committee for Medical Education, Dr Mishra’s background includes roles as the youngest-ever teacher member on the Senate of Nagpur University and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. His leadership is aimed at navigating complex challenges in medical education.
A Multi-Disciplinary Brain Trust
The panel includes distinguished figures to ensure a multi-faceted approach, featuring Dr Vivek Saoji (Bharati University), Dr Purnima Barua (Medical College, Guwahati), and Dr R Krishnamohan (Panimalar Medical College) . To ensure operational alignment with regulatory boards, Jego Ori from the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) is also included, facilitating a balanced approach to the diverse challenges across Indian medical colleges.

This panel is tasked with driving critical reforms in curriculum standardization, digital faculty tracking, and teaching protocols. Key objectives include advising on seat allocation, improving physical assessment models, and replacing outdated inspections with data-driven, real-time auditing . Additionally, the experts will focus on forming guidelines for fee structures, seat expansions, and integrating digital tools into the MBBS curriculum . By assembling this leadership, the NMC seeks to establish a transparent and robust policy framework for the future of medical education in India.
