A formal complaint has triggered an internal probe, raising concerns over workplace safety in medical institutions

Resident Doctor Alleges Repeated Harassment

A woman resident doctor at All India Institute of Medical Sciences Nagpur has filed a formal complaint accusing an associate professor from the Dentistry department of sexual harassment.

According to reports, the complainant alleged that the professor made repeated inappropriate remarks and engaged in unwelcome behaviour over an extended period. While she initially chose to ignore the incidents, she approached the administration after the alleged misconduct persisted.

Case Referred to Vishakha Committee for Inquiry

The institute has forwarded the complaint to its Vishakha Committee, the internal body responsible for addressing workplace sexual harassment cases. Officials confirmed that the matter has been formally recorded and that due process will be followed in accordance with institutional and legal guidelines.

The committee is expected to examine evidence and record statements from both the complainant and the accused before submitting its findings.

Conflicting Statements from Authorities

The case has been clouded by conflicting statements from officials. While the Executive Director reportedly stated that no official complaint had been received, the committee head declined to comment on specifics, citing the ongoing investigation.

This lack of clarity has added to the uncertainty surrounding the case.

Accused Denies Allegations

The associate professor named in the complaint has denied all accusations, calling them baseless. In a statement, he said that he would not comment in detail while the internal inquiry is ongoing and expressed confidence that the truth would emerge through the investigation process.

Doctors’ Associations Demand Safe Work Environment

The incident has sparked concern among medical professionals and within the campus community. The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors and other resident doctor groups have emphasized the urgent need to ensure a safe, respectful, and harassment-free workplace for healthcare workers.
