Rohtak: The Municipal Corporation (MC) of Rohtak has detected serious violations of biomedical waste disposal norms at several hospitals and healthcare facilities, where medical waste was found dumped with household garbage or in public spaces. Officials warned that such breaches of the Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules pose grave risks to public health and the environment.
Fines and Stern Warnings
Acting on the violations, the MC has begun imposing penalties. “Recently, our team caught a hospital staffer disposing of bio-medical waste along with household garbage. A fine of ₹20,000 was imposed on the hospital,” said Anand Kumar Sharma, Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation. He stressed that biomedical waste must only be disposed of through authorised agencies or designated systems.
Call for Public Cooperation
Sharma urged citizens to cooperate in maintaining a clean and safe city. “This city belongs to you, and it is everyone’s duty to keep it clean. We appeal to the public to report such irregularities promptly,” he added.
Cleanliness Drive Launched
Alongside enforcement measures, the MC conducted a special cleanliness drive at Jhajjar Chungi in Ward 20 on Sunday, with active participation from sanitation officials, including Special Officer (Sanitation) Pradeep Kaushik.
Wider Crackdown Across States
Recently, Tamil Nadu amended the Goondas Act to empower authorities to detain individuals involved in illegal biomedical waste dumping under stringent provisions. Similar steps are being urged in other states as concerns about improper disposal practices grow.
