Relatives Accuse Hospital of Medical Negligence, Damage Property and Attack Doctors

Tension gripped the government-run MBS Hospital in Kota after relatives of two patients who died during treatment allegedly assaulted resident doctors, vandalised hospital property and staged a protest outside the medical facility accusing the hospital of negligence.

The deceased were identified as 25-year-old Kishan, a resident of Tonk district, and 55-year-old Madan Lal from Badanaya Goun village in Bundi district.

According to hospital authorities, Kishan died due to complications linked to tetanus infection, while Madan Lal succumbed to breathing complications after being admitted with severe abdominal swelling.

Doctors Allege Assault During CPR

Hospital doctors claimed that the violence erupted while medical staff were attempting to save one of the patients through CPR.

According to a doctor quoted in reports, around two dozen relatives and attendants allegedly stormed into the ward during the emergency procedure, assaulted doctors, tore their clothes and created chaos inside the hospital premises.

The doctors alleged that they managed to escape by locking themselves inside a bathroom.

Kishan had reportedly been admitted to the isolation ward, while Madan Lal was undergoing treatment in the emergency ward. Hospital authorities stated that both patients were already in critical condition at the time of admission.

Family Members Raise Allegations Over Injection

Meanwhile, a relative of Kishan alleged that the patient’s condition worsened after he was administered an injection at the hospital.

The angry relatives allegedly damaged furniture and bathroom gates inside the hospital and later carried one of the bodies outside the ward before blocking the road and raising slogans against the hospital administration.

Resident Doctors Boycott Work Briefly

Following the alleged assault, resident doctors staged a protest on the hospital campus demanding strict action against those responsible for the attack.

MBS Hospital Superintendent Dr Dharamraj Meena said the resident doctors were deeply upset over the incident and briefly boycotted work in protest.

“The resident doctors are filled with outrage over the manhandling and tearing of clothes. However, they agreed to continue handling emergency cases sensitively,” he said.

The superintendent denied allegations of negligence and maintained that both patients were in extremely critical condition before their deaths.

He further claimed that the two patients had not even been officially declared dead when their relatives allegedly removed the bodies and attacked doctors.

Police Register Cases, Hospital to File Complaint

Circle Deputy Superintendent of Police Dr Punam Chauhan said separate cases had been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) related to suspicious or unnatural deaths.

Police said Kishan’s body was handed over to his family after postmortem examination, while Madan Lal’s autopsy was still underway.

Authorities also confirmed that hospital management would lodge a formal police complaint against those involved in the alleged assault and vandalism.

The incident has once again highlighted growing concerns over violence against healthcare workers and security arrangements at government hospitals across the country.
