
Ahmedabad : In a significant development, Rajasthan Hospital, managed by a charitable trust in Ahmedabad, has received an Essentiality Certificate (EC) from the Gujarat government’s health and family welfare department. This paves the way for the establishment of the Gujarat Medical College and Research Centre, a state-of-the-art medical education facility aimed at enhancing healthcare services and education in the region.
Details of the Medical College
- Initial Capacity: The college will begin with 50 MBBS seats, which will later be expanded to 100 seats.
- Postgraduate Programs: In the future, postgraduate courses such as MD and MS will also be introduced.
- Facilities: The college will feature advanced lecture halls, a modern library, smart teaching rooms, a museum, a dissection hall, a skill laboratory, and other infrastructure to support high-quality education.
- Greenfield Model: The college will follow the Greenfield model, adhering to Public-Private Partnership standards under the Gujarat Health Policy – 2016.
Trust’s Vision
P.R. Kankariya, Chairman of Rajasthan Hospital, emphasized the trust’s commitment to establishing a medical college with cutting-edge facilities and a compassionate approach to medical education and services.
- “We aim to improve medical education and healthcare delivery in Gujarat with this initiative,” he said.
Approval Process
- The trust has received a ‘Consent of Affiliation’ from Gujarat University.
- A high-level team from Gujarat’s health department conducted a thorough evaluation, ensuring the college meets the government’s guidelines.
- Based on the findings, the Gujarat government issued the EC, and the trust has now submitted an application to the National Medical Commission (NMC), Delhi, for final approval.
Hospital Expansion
To complement the medical college, the trust is also developing a new hospital campus at an estimated cost of ₹100 crore. This facility will provide practical training opportunities for students while addressing the healthcare needs of the community.
