Jaipur: Resident doctors in Rajasthan are demanding that Senior Resident (SR) counselling be conducted based on NEET PG scores rather than MD/MS university marks. Representatives from Jaipur Association of Resident Doctors (JARD) and United Doctors Front (UDF) Rajasthan met with Shri Ambrish Kumar, Secretary of Medical Education, to present their concerns.
The dispute arose after the government issued an order on March 23, 2025, stating that SR counselling would be based on MD/MS scores instead of NEET PG scores. Doctors argue that MD/MS exams across different colleges have inconsistent grading systems, making them unreliable for competitive ranking. They emphasize that NEET PG is a standardized, objective exam, ensuring fairness.
Key Concerns Raised:
- Lack of Uniformity: MD/MS exams vary in marking leniency across colleges, making comparisons unfair.
- Unfair Disadvantage: High NEET PG scorers may lose seats due to inconsistent university scores.
- Legal Challenges & Delays: The change could result in legal disputes, delaying the recruitment process and affecting hospital operations.
Doctors also pointed out discrepancies in the seat matrix, where only 139 out of 318 SR posts at SMS Medical College, Jaipur, were included. They demanded that all vacant seats be added to the counselling process.
