From emergency medical aid to a surprise cameo, Dr Sunny Ashok’s real-life moment turns into a cinematic experience

Ludhiana: Real-Life Hero Gets a Reel-Life Break

In a remarkable turn of events, a government doctor from Punjab has found himself in the spotlight after securing a brief role in the upcoming film Dhurandhar: The Revenge (popularly referred to as Dhurandhar 2).

Dr Sunny Ashok, posted at a government health centre in Kalakh near Ludhiana, was unexpectedly cast in the film after providing timely medical assistance to actor Arjun Rampal during the shoot.

On-Set Injury Led to Unexpected Opportunity

The incident occurred on July 8, 2025, when Arjun Rampal sustained a head injury while filming a high-intensity chase sequence near a railway track in Ludhiana. Dr Ashok was immediately called to the set amid concerns that the actor might require hospitalisation.

Recalling the moment, Dr Ashok said he examined the actor’s reflexes and confirmed that the injury was not serious, bringing relief to the crew.

A Casual Moment with Ranveer Singh Turned Into a Film Role

Days later, on July 11, during another shoot schedule at Shahnewal Airport, Dr Ashok visited the set again. While interacting with the crew, he requested a photograph with lead actor Ranveer Singh.

In a light-hearted response, Ranveer remarked that he would include the doctor in the film. Initially dismissed as a joke, the situation quickly turned real when director Aditya Dhar stepped in and decided to cast Dr Ashok on the spot.

He was given a small role portraying a doctor treating an injured character—a part he performed naturally.

Shot Across Punjab with Local Connect

Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film was extensively shot across Punjab, including locations near Ludhiana and Shahnewal Airport. The long shooting schedule fostered close interactions between the cast, crew, and local community, including healthcare workers like Dr Ashok.

“I Just Acted Naturally,” Says Doctor

Speaking about his experience, Dr Ashok shared that the director appreciated his natural performance. He was praised for staying in character and behaving exactly like a real doctor would, without looking at the camera.

Although his appearance in the film lasts only a few seconds, it has already made him a local celebrity. Clips of his cameo have been widely shared across social media and WhatsApp groups in his hometown.

Humble Stars and a Bollywood Connection

Dr Ashok also noted that actors like Ranveer Singh and Arjun Rampal were warm and down-to-earth, contrary to common perceptions about film stars.

Interestingly, his family already has a connection to Bollywood—his father, Dr Devinder Ashok, was acquainted with legendary actor Dharmendra.

From Clinic to Camera: A Story to Remember

What began as a routine medical call turned into an unforgettable experience for Dr Sunny Ashok—proving that sometimes, real-life moments can lead to unexpected fame on the big screen.
