New ESIC Hospital Among Key Projects Worth Rs 18,800 Crore Launched in Gujarat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday virtually inaugurated a 220-bedded Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital in Surat as part of a broader package of development projects worth Rs 18,800 crore unveiled from the Surat Indoor Stadium. The inauguration marks a significant step in the Government’s ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare infrastructure and social security coverage for India’s organised workforce.
A separate event was organised at the newly inaugurated ESIC Hospital campus, where the live telecast of the Prime Minister’s address was witnessed by ESIC Director General, senior officials, employers, beneficiaries, and members of the public. The occasion also featured the felicitation of construction workers involved in building the hospital and the direct disbursement of cash benefits to ESI beneficiaries, highlighting the government’s focus on worker welfare and dignity.
Rs 216 Crore Healthcare Facility to Benefit More Than 12 Lakh People
Built at a cost of Rs 216 crore across an 8.60-acre campus, the new ESIC Hospital is expected to serve approximately 3.20 lakh insured persons and around 12.16 lakh beneficiaries in the region. The facility is designed to provide comprehensive and accessible healthcare services to workers and their families covered under the Employees’ State Insurance scheme.
Strategically located about 20 minutes from Surat Railway Station, the hospital is equipped with modern medical infrastructure and advanced healthcare facilities.
Comprehensive Multi-Speciality Services Available
The hospital offers a wide range of speciality and super-speciality services, including General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Oncology, Psychiatry, Ophthalmology, ENT, and Dental Care. These services are supported by advanced Radiology and Pathology departments, along with round-the-clock emergency care to ensure timely medical intervention.
The facility is expected to significantly improve healthcare accessibility and reduce the burden on existing medical institutions in the region.
Boost to Gujarat’s Expanding ESI Healthcare Network
The inauguration further strengthens Gujarat’s extensive Employees’ State Insurance healthcare ecosystem, which began operations in the state in October 1964. Today, the ESI network provides social security and healthcare coverage to approximately 20.04 lakh insured persons across 34 districts.
The Surat Sub-Regional Office network caters to workers and beneficiaries across Surat, Navsari, and Valsad districts, playing a crucial role in delivering healthcare and social security benefits to the organised workforce.
Government Reaffirms Commitment to Worker Welfare
The launch of the new ESIC Hospital underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure for workers and their families. By expanding access to quality medical services and modern treatment facilities, the initiative is expected to enhance healthcare outcomes and reinforce social security coverage in the Surat region.
The hospital is set to emerge as a key healthcare hub for insured workers, contributing to the broader goal of universal and affordable healthcare access for India’s workforce.
