Palwal, Haryana: In a dramatic turn of events, a doctor running a private nursing home in Palwal district was allegedly targeted in a honey trap and extortion scheme, where he was blackmailed for Rs 10 lakh under the threat of being falsely implicated in a sexual harassment case.
The three accused—a woman impersonating a lawyer, a fake police ASI, and a woman posing as a nurse—were arrested red-handed after the doctor, Dr. Vijendra Singh, reported the incident to the police and assisted in a successful sting operation.
The Setup and the Sting Operation
The incident began when a woman identifying herself as Advocate Poonam Rao called Dr. Singh, accusing him of molesting a nurse named Priyanka at his hospital. She threatened that unless he paid Rs 10 lakh, a false rape case would be filed, and his reputation would be ruined both locally and on social media.
Sensing foul play, Dr. Singh contacted IPS officer Ayush Yadav, after which Superintendent of Police Chandra Mohan formed a special team. As per the plan, the doctor delivered Rs 6 lakh in cash and an additional Rs 60,000 via Paytm to the accused.
As soon as the money changed hands, the police raided the premises and arrested all three accused—Poonam Rao, ASI Netram, and Priyanka.
Past Offences and Police Action
According to police records, ASI Netram was on ERP vehicle duty along the KMP Expressway at the time of the arrest. Investigations also revealed that Poonam Rao had previously been arrested in 2022 for uploading a pistol-wielding video on Instagram.
SP Chandra Mohan has ordered strict action against all the accused and is probing whether the gang had entrapped other victims using similar tactics.
