Crackdown follows 56 complaints; government vows strict monitoring to ensure quality cashless treatment
The Odisha government has suspended ten private hospitals from the empanelled list of the Ayushman Bharat–Gopabandhu Jana Arogya Yojana (AB–GJAY) after multiple allegations of violations and irregular practices surfaced. In a separate action, a hospital in Ganjam district has been penalised for submitting duplicate claims under the scheme.
Action After Multiple Complaints
State Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling informed the Assembly that the decision was taken following a review of 56 complaints against various healthcare facilities. Show-cause notices were issued, and detailed investigations led to the suspension of ten hospitals and financial penalties in one case.
District-Wise Impact
The de-rostered hospitals are spread across several districts, including three in Cuttack, two each in Ganjam and Khordha, and one each in Kendrapada, Bhadrak, and Bolangir.
Key Violations Identified
Authorities cited multiple violations, including non-compliance with scheme guidelines, lack of proper clinical registration, treatment-related negligence, and other irregularities. In one instance, a patient’s death was reportedly linked to substandard care.
Penalty for Duplicate Claims
A hospital in Ganjam district was found to have submitted duplicate claims under AB–GJAY. The government imposed a penalty of ₹58,500, which has already been recovered.
Government Tightens Oversight
The Health Minister emphasised that the government is maintaining strict surveillance over empanelled hospitals to ensure beneficiaries receive high-quality, cashless treatment. He added that complaints are being actively reviewed and strict action—including suspension—will be taken against violators.
Focus on Transparency and Accountability
Officials reiterated that transparency and accountability remain top priorities under the AB–GJAY scheme, which aims to provide free healthcare services to eligible beneficiaries across Odisha. The government’s latest action signals a strong push to safeguard public interest and maintain trust in the programme.
