Odisha Creates 755 Faculty and Medical Officer Posts; MBBS and PG Capacity Also Expanded
Bhubaneswar: In a major boost to healthcare services and medical education, the Odisha government has approved the creation of 755 new posts across government medical colleges and healthcare institutions. The decision aims to address staffing shortages, improve patient care, and enhance the quality of medical education across the state.
The newly sanctioned positions include 7 Professors, 35 Associate Professors, 50 Assistant Professors, 29 Tutors, 248 Senior Residents, 190 Junior Residents (MBBS), 112 Casualty Medical Officers (CMOs), and 84 Blood Bank Officers (BBOs). The move comes amid increasing demand for healthcare professionals and the expansion of medical education infrastructure in Odisha.
According to the state government, the approval of these posts is expected to significantly improve the availability of qualified teaching faculty and healthcare personnel in medical colleges and associated hospitals. The initiative is also aimed at ensuring better academic standards for medical students while strengthening healthcare delivery for patients.
The need for additional faculty members became more urgent following the increase in student intake across medical colleges. With more MBBS and postgraduate students entering the system, adequate teaching staff has become essential to maintain educational quality and regulatory standards.
Speaking on the development, Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling stated that the government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has placed the healthcare sector among its top priorities. He emphasized that the government’s vision is not only to improve healthcare services for citizens but also to establish a strong foundation for medical education in the state.
The state has also recently expanded medical education opportunities by increasing MBBS seats by 250 across three new medical colleges. Additionally, the number of postgraduate medical seats has been increased to 68, further strengthening Odisha’s medical education ecosystem.
Officials believe that the combined expansion of faculty positions, healthcare staff, and student intake capacity will help set new benchmarks in quality medical education, healthcare delivery, and patient care in the coming years.
The creation of these 755 posts forms part of Odisha government’s broader strategy to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, address workforce gaps, and ensure access to quality medical services for people across the state.
