177 Development Projects Worth Rs 446 Crore Unveiled
Nabarangpur: In a significant boost to healthcare infrastructure, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday laid the foundation stone for a new government medical college and hospital in Nabarangpur district. At a public function held at Mandei ground, he also inaugurated and launched 177 development projects worth Rs 446 crore.
The Chief Minister announced that the upcoming medical college will have 100 MBBS seats and a 420-bed hospital. He said the project fulfils a long-pending demand of residents who earlier had to travel to distant cities such as Cuttack, Visakhapatnam and Raipur for advanced medical treatment.
The new medical facility will be developed over more than 50 acres of land at Patalguda in the district. Majhi assured that once operational, the institution will provide modern healthcare services locally, reducing the need for patients to seek treatment outside the district.
Highlighting achievements of his government, Majhi said that within 20 months of assuming office, three new medical colleges have been made operational in Jajpur, Kandhamal and Talcher. He added that the government has committed to establishing four more medical colleges across the state.
“Today we laid the foundation stone at Nabarangpur. Soon, medical colleges will also be set up in Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur and Bhadrak,” he said, according to Press Trust of India.
Apart from the medical college project, the Chief Minister launched 177 development initiatives for Nabarangpur district. These include the inauguration of 112 projects worth Rs 68 crore and the foundation stone laying of 65 projects valued at Rs 378 crore, spanning sectors such as education, healthcare, roads, bridges, hostels, forest protection committees and anganwadi centres.
Addressing reporters, Majhi said the state government is committed to the holistic development of Nabarangpur. “Even though Nabarangpur is far from Bhubaneswar, its development will never be far from the government,” he asserted.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling noted that three decades ago Odisha had only three government medical colleges. He said the current government aims to establish medical colleges in all districts to ensure quality healthcare and adequate availability of doctors. The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, Minister Nityanand Gand, Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi, Rajya Sabha MP Muzibulla Khan and several other public representatives and officials.
