New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued an urgent warning to medical colleges and stakeholders about fraudulent calls made by impersonators posing as high-ranking NMC officials. The impersonators claim to be either the Chairman of the NMC or the President of various boards under the NMC and are attempting to solicit funds.

Key Details of the Notification

  • The NMC’s official communication, signed by Chairman Dr. B Srinivas, cautions medical colleges across the country about bogus calls being made to college officials. These individuals are attempting to scam medical institutes by pretending to be high-ranking officials from the NMC, seeking money.
  • The notice clearly states that neither the NMC Chairman nor the presidents or members of any NMC boards ever make phone calls requesting monetary favors.
  • It urges medical college authorities not to engage with such individuals and to immediately report these incidents by filing an FIR with the police.

Public and Institutional Caution

  • The NMC’s warning also advises senior officials in medical colleges to avoid any communication with people claiming to represent the NMC unless their identity is verified.
  • The notification emphasizes that anyone interacting with these fraudsters does so at their own risk and that immediate legal action should be taken if such a scam is suspected.

Previous Warnings

  • This is not the first time such scams have occurred. In January, the NMC issued a similar alert about an imposter impersonating the Commission’s former Chairman, Dr. BN Gangadhar. Another warning was issued in May 2024 regarding the same issue.

The NMC has urged the public and institutions to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
