New Delhi : In its draft regulations issued for undergraduate medical education released on Monday, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has for the first-time prescribed choice-based courses limited to a maximum of one week, in addition to the MBBS curriculum.
The commission has also proposed completion of MBBS within nine years of joining the course. Currently, medical student can complete the four-and-a-half-year course in 10 years.
In another important move, the NMC has also recommended a fine of Rs 50 lakh per seat for any violation of admission guidelines and Rs 1 crore for non-compliance the second time, and repeated violations could also lead to barring the institute from granting admissions altogether. Admissions of such students will stand cancelled and twice the number of seats will be reduced the next year.
