New Delhi : The National Medical Commission (NMC) said that the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) has noticed that some colleges are not adhering to the norms of keeping adequate staff especially the nursing staff. NMC has asked all medical colleges to follow the rules and norms for nursing staff laid down by the Indian Nursing Council.

“It has been brought to the notice of Medical Assessment and Rating Board of the National Medical Commission that some of the colleges are not adhering to the norms and conditions laid down for staff requirement as per NMC notification. The nursing staff shall conform to the norms as drawn by the Indian Nursing Council from time to time,” said Samir Sinha, deputy secretary, in a notice to medical colleges established with the approval of Medical Council of India (MCI) or by NMC. “All medical colleges are hereby instructed to follow the above norms and guidelines of MCI for nursing staff,” the notice read.

Recently, NMC amended regulations on establishment of medical colleges and invited feedback on draft amendments. According to the new changes in regulations, universities and deemed-to-be universities will not be required to fulfill the condition of having a “fully functional hospital for a minimum of two years” to set up new medical colleges provided that they fulfill other conditions.
