New Delhi:
In a major boost to postgraduate medical education in India, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved 4201 new PG medical seats in Broad Specialities across private medical colleges for the Academic Year 2025-26.
The approval comes in continuation to the PG seats already sanctioned for Government Medical Colleges and Deemed-to-be Universities earlier this year. MARB released an official notice on 27 November 2025, detailing the newly sanctioned as well as increased PG intake in private institutions.
NMC Issues Updated Seat Matrix
Referring to MARB’s notice, the NMC Director issued a follow-up notification stating:
“All concerned medical institutions, parents, students, and stakeholders are requested to take note of the updated PG Broad Speciality seat matrix for AY 2025-26.”
According to NMC data:
- Existing seats: 3123
- Newly approved seats: 4201
- Total PG seats (AY 2025-26): 7324
LOPs Not Required for Counselling
MARB also clarified that Letters of Permission (LOPs) for the newly sanctioned seats are under process. However, counselling authorities should not wait for LOP issuance.
“The list uploaded on the NMC website shall be considered a valid document for the counselling process,” MARB stated, allowing immediate inclusion of new seats in NEET PG counselling procedures.
