Patna: In a major push toward enhancing healthcare services in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar laid the foundation stone for the upcoming R Jhunjhunwala Shankara Eye Hospital in Patna. The facility is being developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and is slated to become fully operational by December 2026.

State-of-the-Art Eye Care Facility to Serve Bihar Residents

Speaking at the foundation ceremony, CM Kumar emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening health infrastructure across Bihar. He said the new hospital would be a state-of-the-art center for specialised ophthalmic care, eliminating the need for residents to travel outside the state for eye treatments.

“We are working to ensure that no one in Bihar has to leave the state for quality healthcare,” said Nitish Kumar, as quoted by UNI.

Hospital to Feature Advanced Eye Care Technologies

During the event, hospital representatives gave a detailed presentation outlining the hospital’s architectural design, proposed medical facilities, and the incorporation of advanced diagnostic and surgical technologies.

The hospital will offer affordable and high-quality eye care, particularly aimed at serving economically disadvantaged populations in Bihar.

PPP Model with Sankara Eye Foundation

The hospital is being set up in collaboration with the Sankara Eye Foundation, marking a landmark partnership between the Bihar government and a reputed healthcare organization.

Earlier, an MoU was signed by Sanjay Kumar Singh, Secretary of the Health Department, and Padma Shri Dr. R.B. Ramani, Managing Director of the Sankara Eye Foundation India, in the presence of the Chief Minister.

Part of Bihar’s Broader Healthcare Modernisation Effort

This project is seen as a key milestone in Bihar’s ongoing efforts to modernise healthcare infrastructure through collaborative ventures between the public and private sectors.

We had earlier reported that this initiative would bring affordable, specialised eye care to Bihar’s capital, providing much-needed services for the underprivileged and strengthening the state’s overall medical landscape.
