Hyderabad: Nursing officers at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences staged a protest on the hospital premises, demanding that the management address their long-pending service and welfare-related demands.
Peaceful One-Hour Demonstration
The protest took the form of a peaceful one-hour rally within the hospital campus. Holding placards and banners carrying slogans such as “One Hospital, One Rule” and “Don’t Exploit Our Rights”, the nurses raised their concerns and returned to duty after the rally concluded.
Allegations Against Hospital Administration
The nursing staff alleged that despite planning the rally strictly within the campus, the hospital administration locked certain gates to restrict their movement. This action reportedly angered the nurses, who asserted their right to continue the protest peacefully.
Demands Raised for Past One Week
Nursing officers said they have been highlighting their issues before the hospital authorities for more than a week. The rally was organised as part of ongoing efforts to push for resolution of unresolved demands.
Key Service-Related Issues
The nurses are demanding resumption of medical services at NIMS for parents of contract nursing officers, filling of vacant nursing posts, earned leave encashment, cadre review, and improved service benefits, including timely promotions and adequate staffing.
Pay Parity and Welfare Benefits Sought
They are also seeking proper status and salaries on par with AIIMS for lecturers at the NIMS Nursing College. Additional demands include basic welfare facilities, enhanced gratuity benefits, and maternity leave for women employees as per existing government orders.
Union Voices Discontent
NIMS Nursing Union General Secretary Krishna stated that the staff had been observing a peaceful black badge protest to draw attention to unresolved issues. He alleged that despite assurances of discussions, the management cited the need to approach higher authorities for decisions.
Protests to Continue
The nursing staff expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of concrete assurance from the management. They warned that protests would continue until authorities take meaningful steps to address their legitimate demands and ensure fair treatment for nursing professionals.
