Siddha Day Celebrations Announced
The Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, in collaboration with the National Institute of Siddha (NIS), the Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS), and the Directorate of Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy, Government of Tamil Nadu, will celebrate the 9th Siddha Day on January 3, 2026, at Kalaivanar Arangam, Chennai.
Theme Focused on Global Health
This year’s celebrations will be held under the theme “Siddha for Global Health.” Siddha Day is observed annually to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sage Agathiyar, revered as the father of Siddha medicine. Officially, Siddha Day is marked every year on January 6.
Vice President to Inaugurate Event
The Vice President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, will preside over and inaugurate the 9th Siddha Day celebrations. The high-level participation reflects the growing importance of Siddha medicine in India’s traditional healthcare framework.
Presence of Union and State Dignitaries
The event will be attended by Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush and Minister of State, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare; Shri Ma. Subramanian, Tamil Nadu Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare; Padma Shri Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush; Dr. P. Senthil Kumar, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Tamil Nadu; and Smt. M. Vijayalakshmi, Director, Directorate of Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy.
Participation from Siddha Fraternity
The celebration will witness the participation of Siddha practitioners, scientists, academicians, scholars, and students from Tamil Nadu and other states. Senior members of Siddha statutory bodies, researchers from NIS and CCRS, and officials from the Ministry of Ayush and the Tamil Nadu government will also be present.
Strong Student Representation Expected
Undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students from Government Siddha Medical Colleges in Chennai and Palayamkottai, along with students from self-financing Siddha colleges in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, are expected to attend the event in large numbers.
Honouring Eminent Contributors
On the occasion of the 9th Siddha Day, the Ministry of Ayush will felicitate five eminent personalities for their exceptional and commendable contributions to the Siddha system of medicine, recognising their role in its growth and development.
Promoting Siddha on Global मंच
The event will highlight Siddha medicine’s contributions to preventive healthcare, research, and global wellness. It also underlines the Ministry of Ayush’s commitment to strengthening Siddha’s role in healthcare delivery, academic advancement, innovation, and securing wider national and international recognition for India’s traditional systems of medicine.
