Scam Details

The accused, Shehnila Ahtisham Syed, falsely claimed to be conducting clinical research at D Y Patil Medical College, Navi Mumbai. She convinced the victim to invest in her research project, promising to double the investment and provide a 4-5% monthly interest. Between October 2014 and February 2025, the victim transferred money to Syed’s ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, and IndusInd Bank accounts. The accused returned ₹1.18 crore, but the victim stated that this was not a profit but part of her original investment.

Legal Action

  • The victim filed a complaint, stating, “The accused, in the name of clinical research, took money from me and others, used it for personal gain, breached my trust, and defrauded us.”
  • The Amboli police have booked Syed under Sections 318(4) (cheating) and 316(2) (criminal breach of trust) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
  • Authorities are currently searching for the accused.
