Civic Medical Officer Allegedly Threatened With Viral Video Over Purported Private Practice

The Mumbai Police has registered a case against four unidentified individuals, including a woman, for allegedly attempting to extort Rs 15 lakh from a civic doctor by threatening to leak a purported video showing him working at a private establishment.

The complainant, a 45-year-old medical officer posted at the Trauma Care Hospital, resides in Borivali West. According to police officials, the accused allegedly used the video to blackmail the doctor, claiming it showed him engaged in private practice, which is prohibited for government medical officers.

Video Allegedly Recorded Secretly During Hajj Portal Duty

According to the complaint filed with the Jogeshwari Police, the incident dates back to April 8, 2026. The doctor stated that he was at a café in Malad West after office hours, uploading fitness certificate details for Hajj pilgrims’ vaccination records onto an official portal.

The hospital administration had reportedly appointed him as the Nodal Officer for the Hajj portal process. The complainant alleged that someone secretly recorded the video during that time.

Accused Allegedly Demanded Rs 15 Lakh Inside Hospital Premises

Police said the accused repeatedly contacted the doctor over several days using an unknown mobile number. The situation escalated on May 6 around 12:30 pm when a man posing as a patient allegedly approached the doctor inside the hospital.

The suspect reportedly confirmed the doctor’s identity before showing him the video on a mobile phone. He then allegedly took the doctor aside and demanded money, threatening to make the footage viral if the payment was not made.

Investigators said the accused returned to the hospital nearly 30 minutes later and openly demanded Rs 15 lakh in the presence of the doctor’s colleagues, asking him to arrange the money within an hour.

FIR Registered Under Extortion and Criminal Intimidation Charges

Following the complaint, Jogeshwari police registered an FIR on Saturday against four unidentified persons under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to extortion, criminal intimidation, and blackmail.

Police officials are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the hospital and nearby locations to identify the accused. Investigators are also analysing call detail records associated with the unknown phone number used to contact the doctor.
