Incident in Malwani Clinic
Mumbai: A 44-year-old doctor running a clinic in Malwani, Mumbai, has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a 12-and-a-half-year-old girl during a medical consultation. The incident came to light after the minor approached police and narrated her ordeal.
Victim Sought Treatment for Injury
According to reports, the girl had visited the clinic alone seeking treatment for a lip fracture. She alleged that during the examination, the doctor asked her to lie down and touched her inappropriately, leaving her mentally distressed and embarrassed.
Police Register Case Under POCSO
Malwani Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, including Sections 10 and 12. PSI Shivaji Mohite initially registered the case, which was later taken over by API Prashant Mundhe.
Accused Doctor Arrested
The accused, a resident of Kandivli who has been running the Malwani clinic for several years, was arrested during the ongoing investigation. He was produced before a sessions court on December 24, and further investigation is underway.
Questionable Medical Qualifications
Police said the doctor holds a degree in acupuncture and is suspected of providing various medical treatments without proper authorisation. Authorities are currently verifying his educational qualifications and certificates to determine the legality of his practice.
Previous Cases Highlight Safety Concerns
Medical Dialogues had previously reported incidents involving young medical professionals being molested. One case involved a postgraduate student at Sapthagiri Medical College who was allegedly molested by an unidentified man while returning home from duties, highlighting recurring safety concerns.
