Mumbai: In a major crackdown on illegal medical practices, the Mumbai Crime Branch’s Unit 6 has arrested two quacks operating unauthorized clinics in the Shivajinagar area of Govandi. The accused were found treating patients without possessing any valid medical degrees or licenses, raising serious concerns about public health and safety.

Simultaneous Raids Expose Illegal Clinics

Acting on credible intelligence inputs, officials from Crime Branch Unit 6, along with an assistant medical officer from the BMC’s M Ward (E), carried out coordinated raids at two separate clinics. During the operation, both individuals were caught red-handed while examining patients and administering treatments despite having no formal medical training.

No Medical License, Yet Charging Patients

Investigations revealed that the accused had been running their clinics independently and charging substantial consultation fees. Shockingly, they were treating patients for various ailments without authorization from the Maharashtra Medical Council or any recognized medical body.

Medical Supplies Seized During Operation

During the raids, police seized a large quantity of medical supplies from the clinics, including injection bottles, syringes, and antibiotic tablets. Authorities believe these materials were being used to carry out unauthorized treatments, potentially putting patients at significant risk.

FIR Registered Under Medical Practitioners Act

Based on the findings, FIRs have been registered against both accused at Shivajinagar Police Station under Sections 33 and 36 of the Medical Practitioners Act, 1961. Officials confirmed that further investigation is currently underway to uncover any larger network or additional illegal activities.

Maharashtra Government Forms Task Force

Amid rising concerns over bogus doctors and unregistered medical facilities, the Maharashtra government has recently set up a state-level task force in March. The initiative aims to crack down on illegal medical practices across the state.

The task force, headed by the Additional Chief Secretary of Urban Development along with senior Health Department officials, is expected to submit a detailed action report in the upcoming legislative session. Minister Uday Samant has acknowledged that the issue is widespread and extends beyond Mumbai, emphasizing the need for strict enforcement and monitoring.

Growing Concern Over Public Safety

This incident highlights the ongoing threat posed by unqualified practitioners operating in densely populated areas. Authorities have urged citizens to verify the credentials of healthcare providers before seeking treatment, as such illegal practices can lead to severe health complications.
