New Delhi: In a significant update, the Post-Graduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) under the National Medical Commission (NMC) has decided to include MS Traumatology and Surgery as an eligible feeder course for three MCh specialities. This means that PG degree holders in Traumatology and Surgery can now appear for the NEET SS 2024 exam to pursue MCh in Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.
Official Notification and Provisional Approval
According to an official circular issued by PGMEB,
“The Post-Graduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) will allow PG degree holders in Traumatology and Surgery eligible to appear in NEET-SS 2024 provisionally for the MCh specialities, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. All concerned stakeholders are requested to kindly take note of the same.”
However, the final selection of candidates for these MCh specialities will be subject to the approval of the upcoming “Post-Graduate Medical Education (Amendment) Regulations, 2025” and its publication in the Gazette of India.
NEET SS 2024 Exam Schedule & Key Changes
The NEET SS 2024 is scheduled to be held on March 29 and 30, 2025. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has also introduced two major changes in the exam structure:
- Separate Question Paper for Medical Oncology
- A new Medical Oncology Group will have a separate question paper.
- The questions will exclusively focus on topics related to Medical Oncology.
- Separate Question Paper for Critical Care Medicine
- A dedicated Critical Care Medicine Group has been introduced.
- This group will have a distinct question paper covering Critical Care Medicine topics.
Meanwhile, the rest of the NEET SS examination scheme will remain unchanged for all other groups.
