
Mangaluru – Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL) has committed ₹10 crore for development works at Government Wenlock Hospital and ₹5.43 crore for establishing the U.R. Rao Space and Astronomy Gallery at Pilikula Nisargadhama.
Letters of Intent Handed Over
MRPL Managing Director M. Shyamprasad Kamath and Group General Manager (HR) Krishna Hegde presented the letters of intent to MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta and Mangaluru City South MLA D. Vedavyasa Kamath.
Expansion Plans at Wenlock Hospital
Hospital Superintendent D.S. Shivaprakash stated that the ₹10 crore donation will fund:
- A 55-bed surgical ward on the 4th floor
- A 22-bed surgical ward on the 5th floor
- A Central Sterile Supply Department on the 4th floor
Additionally, a 35-bed dialysis ward is already under development on the 4th floor, utilizing ₹45 lakh donated by MRPL earlier.
U.R. Rao Space and Astronomy Gallery
Pilikula Regional Science Centre Director K.V. Rao announced that the ₹5.43 crore funding will be used to construct the U.R. Rao Space and Astronomy Gallery in honor of the former ISRO Chairman, who hailed from Udupi district. Spanning 600 square meters, the gallery will be located in front of the Swami Vivekananda Planetarium and will include outdoor space models.
“This gallery aims to inspire youth and introduce them to space technology,” said Mr. Rao.
