Moradabad : A 26-year-old woman from Bijnor, Shivani Singh, died two days after undergoing a C-section surgery at a private hospital in Moradabad, sparking allegations of medical negligence. The incident has led to an FIR against the attending doctor and hospital staff.
What Happened:
Shivani was admitted to a private hospital in Hanuman Murti Tiraha, Katghar, on the morning of April 10 after she went into labour. The attending physician, Dr Piyush Kumar, performed a caesarean section, following which Shivani gave birth to a baby girl.
However, both mother and child were reportedly in critical condition soon after surgery. While the newborn was shifted to the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU), Shivani was moved to the ICU due to severe postpartum bleeding.
Family’s Allegations:
Shivani’s husband, Virendra Singh, alleged:
- No proper post-operative care was provided.
- Timely medication and blood transfusions were not administered.
- The doctor left for Allahabad to celebrate his son’s birthday, leaving Shivani under the care of staff who were not equipped to handle her deteriorating condition.
Shivani died around 3 am on April 12, less than 48 hours after the surgery.
Legal Action:
Following a complaint by Virendra, Katghar Police registered an FIR under BNS Section 106(1) (causing death by negligence) against Dr Kumar and his staff. SHO Sanjay Kumar confirmed that legal procedure is underway and notices will be served to those named.
Doctor’s Defence:
Dr Piyush Kumar has denied all allegations, claiming:
“The patient was already in a critical state when she was referred from the district hospital. A gynecologist was monitoring her condition. We provided all necessary care, and we will present our case before authorities.”
This tragic incident has reignited the debate over accountability in private healthcare facilities, especially in cases involving maternal care.
