New Delhi: In yet another incident of violence against doctors, a mob of 50-70 assailants armed with weapons stormed the gynecology department in Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) Hospital thereby assaulting the on-duty doctors, threatening staff, damaging the hospital property leading to widespread chaos in the hospital. The violence has once again raised the question of on-duty doctors facing the wrath of the patient relatives if not being able to give desired results of treatment.

The incident occurred when a patient faced Post-Partum Hemorrhage (PPH) after normal vaginal delivery. The patient condition started deteriorating and the on-duty doctor tried to manage the situation. Meanwhile one of the attendant came inside and started shouting at the doctor and staff. The attendant called around 50-70 armed with weapons who barged into the labour room and assaulted the doctors present. When the patient was being taken to the OT, the mob allegedly entered the OT and created ruckus inside the OT as the patient passed away.  One senior resident and one junior resident has been injured in the attack. Meanwhile the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of UCMS & GTB hospital in a statement said that they were shocked by the incident. The RDA has gone on strike until their demand of institutional FIR is met. Also, RDA demanded immediate implementation of robust security measures in all hotspot areas of the GTB hospital.
