Kolkata:  A mob of approximately 5000-7000 people barged into the RG Kar Hospital on the night and assaulted doctors who were protesting against the rape and murder of a doctor, and vandalised property and vehicles. The protesting doctors said that the mob’s act was deliberate with the clandestine motive of ending their agitation. According to the doctors they were planning to arrange a rally of female nurses, doctors and students. When they were getting ready to start the rally a huge mob of 5000-7000 people came and they got into the protest and later on entered the RG Kar hospital campus and vandalised the protesting site, vehicles, and public property. The doctors alleged that before the mob came the police was in good number but as the mob came only a few police personnel present at the spot. Later on the police disperse the mob.

The doctors alleged that the police did not act and even the Deputy Commissioner did not pick up the phone of doctors when the mob was vandalising the campus. The doctors claimed the mob wanted to break the protest in a targeted and organised way. Meanwhile Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee asked the police to identify and arrest those responsible for the violence. Meanwhile, nurses protested against vandalism at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
