Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS) to Begin in April

Aizawl: Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Wednesday launched the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS) at the Assembly Annexe Conference Hall in Aizawl. The scheme, set to become effective from April, will operate on a cashless basis to ensure seamless healthcare access.

Lalduhoma emphasized that MUHCS aims to replace existing healthcare schemes while addressing challenges faced by empanelled hospitals, ensuring comprehensive medical coverage for beneficiaries.

“Despite financial constraints, the government has prioritized this initiative, and banks have assured full cooperation in its implementation,” he stated.

Funding and Implementation Challenges

  • Initially, the scheme was planned with Asian Development Bank (ADB) funding, but the loan is yet to be sanctioned.
  • The state government remains confident in implementing MUHCS, even without ADB’s financial assistance.
  • The government has proposed an allocation of ₹14.50 crore in March to settle outstanding healthcare bills.

Who is Covered Under MUHCS?

  • Government employees and civil pensioners
  • General public
  • Holders of Golden Cards under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY)

With MUHCS, Mizoram aims to enhance healthcare accessibility and provide financial relief to citizens, ensuring that no patient faces difficulties due to medical expenses.
