Family Alleges Medical Negligence at Cooch Behar Medical College

Cooch Behar: A 13-year-old girl died under mysterious circumstances at Maharaja Jitendra Narayan Medical College & Hospital (MJNMCH) after receiving five injections within minutes of admission, sparking allegations of medical negligence against an on-duty doctor and the hospital principal.

The girl’s family has filed a complaint against the doctor, alleging that her condition worsened immediately after the injections and that their repeated pleas for medical intervention were ignored.

Incident Details

  • The girl had traveled to Cooch Behar town with her family for a wedding invitation when she suddenly fell ill around 11 PM, experiencing breathing difficulties.
  • She was rushed to MJNMCH, where doctors advised admission.
  • The attending doctor administered five injections in quick succession, after which her condition deteriorated rapidly.
  • Despite repeated requests from the family, the doctor allegedly did not return to check on her, leading to her death.

Family Seeks Justice

The girl’s brother accused the hospital of negligence, stating:

“My sister died due to the doctor’s negligence. We demand a thorough investigation.”

Following the family’s complaint, the police have launched an investigation into the matter.

Hospital Assures Investigation

Dr. Souradeep Roy, Medical Superintendent cum Vice-Principal (MSVP) of MJNMCH, responded to the allegations, saying:

“I am currently in Kolkata for official work. Upon my return tomorrow, a committee will be formed to investigate the matter.”

The case has raised serious concerns about patient safety and medical protocols, with the family seeking strict action against those responsible.
