Mandya – The Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) is poised for a significant overhaul, with plans to expand its bed capacity and renovate key healthcare infrastructure to enhance medical services in the region.

The announcement was made by N. Cheluvarayaswamy, Minister in charge of Mandya district, following a high-level meeting in Bengaluru with Karnataka Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil and Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao.

Both ministers assured full support for the development of MIMS, recognizing the urgent need to address overcrowding. Currently operating with 400 beds, the hospital treats over 800 patients daily, leading to heavy strain on resources. To tackle this, Cheluvarayaswamy proposed increasing the capacity to 850 beds.

In the first phase, Medical Education Minister Patil instructed officials to secure environmental clearance and submit a formal proposal to expand the hospital to 500 beds.

A detailed project report will also be prepared to include construction and renovation of critical units such as emergency and minor surgery departments, a cancer care unit, laundry facilities, additional wards, and improved power infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Rao emphasized strengthening rural healthcare and ordered upgrades for seven taluk hospitals and several Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in the Mandya district.

The meeting included participation from MLAs Ramesh Bandisiddegowda, Ravikumar Ganiga, Darshan Puttannaiah, Uday Gowda, and MLC Madhu Madegowda, who contributed suggestions for MIMS development.

To ensure smooth execution, Mandya Deputy Commissioner Kumar was directed to oversee the implementation of these decisions. Also present were Principal Secretaries Mohammad Mohsin (Medical Education), Harsh Gupta (Health), and other senior officials.
