Mumbai — In a tragic incident, a 24-year-old MBBS intern from Grant Medical College and JJ Hospital lost her life after falling from the fourth floor of the hospital building on Friday evening. Police are investigating whether the incident was an accident, suicide, or a case of foul play.

According to the JJ Marg police, the young doctor had gone to the terrace around 6 p.m. when hospital staff reportedly heard a loud thud. They found her critically injured and bleeding on the ground floor. She was immediately rushed for treatment, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Autopsy & Preliminary Findings

An autopsy revealed that the intern had suffered severe head trauma and multiple injuries across her body. While the preliminary investigation suggests a possible suicide, officers say they are not ruling out other possibilities.

“The case has been registered as an Accidental Death Report (ADR) for now. Viscera samples have been sent for forensic analysis,” said an official from JJ Marg police station. “We are thoroughly investigating whether this was a suicide, an accident, or involved any foul play.”

Some doctors at the hospital told police that she had been using her mobile phone on the terrace at the time and may have lost her balance. However, no conclusive evidence has yet emerged.

About the Intern

The deceased had completed her MBBS from Grant Medical College and was just two months away from completing her internship at JJ Hospital. Her family has been informed, and the body was handed over to them after post-mortem procedures.

Growing Concerns Over Young Doctors’ Mental Health

This incident follows a series of similar tragic events across the country involving young medical students and doctors. The medical fraternity and mental health experts continue to stress the need for better emotional support systems, particularly for students and interns facing intense academic pressure and workplace stress.
