Incident Reported During Late-Night Duty At Government Hospital In Telangana
In a shocking incident, a male nursing officer was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a postgraduate medical student inside the operation theatre of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences Government Hospital in Adilabad, Telangana.
According to reports, the incident occurred on the night of May 9 inside the government-run hospital when the accused allegedly approached the PG medical student around midnight after completing his duty hours and sexually harassed her while she was leaving the operation theatre.
Victim Raised Alarm, Accused Fled From Spot
Police officials stated that the victim immediately raised an alarm following the alleged incident, forcing the accused nursing officer to flee from the spot.
Subsequently, the victim submitted a formal complaint to RIMS Director Jai Singh Rathod. Acting on the complaint, the hospital administration constituted a seven-member inquiry committee to investigate the allegations.
Inquiry Committee Confirms Allegations Against Nursing Officer
The inquiry committee reportedly recorded the victim’s statement, examined available evidence, and confirmed the allegations against the accused nursing officer.
Based on the findings of the internal probe, the victim later approached the police and lodged an official complaint with the authorities.
Following the complaint, the Two Town police arrested the accused and remanded him to judicial custody, officials confirmed.
RIMS Director Assures Strict Departmental Action
Calling the episode a “very sad incident,” RIMS Director Jai Singh Rathod stated that departmental action would also be initiated against the accused and emphasized that such incidents would not be tolerated within the institution.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns over the safety and security of medical students, resident doctors, and healthcare workers performing late-night duties in government hospitals.
Similar Sexual Harassment Allegations Reported Earlier
Earlier, disciplinary proceedings were initiated by the Andhra Pradesh government following allegations of sexual harassment involving female students at Dr Nori Rama Sastry Government Ayurvedic Medical College in Vijayawada.
In that case, authorities suspended a medical officer and a lab technician, while the college principal and a professor were relieved of their duties amid the ongoing inquiry into the allegations.
